SENIOR BUYER
OVERVIEW:
In this position, you will be the Senior Buyer reporting directly to CEO for
a furniture wholesaler and retailer. You will do planning and product development
for the company including both domestic and overseas travel.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage Vendor Relationships
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and rebates with vendors in order to maximize profitability
for company.
- Attend furniture shows as needed, both nationally and internationally.
- Work with vendors and logistics teams to manage inbound & outbound freight
costs both domestically and internationally.
- Work with internet development team to get the most out of both "drop
ship" and in stock vendors.
Product Development
- Work directly with international (Asian) vendors on developing new product
for both stores and internet websites.
- Travel to China in order to source new factories, review & inspect container
orders and develop new product with overseas resources.
- Work with domestic resources on new product development, product launches,
and exclusive products for both stores and internet websites.
Planning / Stock Allocation
- Review weekly replenishment orders with Lead Planner to ensure in-stock position
for both stores and internet websites.
- Work with Lead Planner to forecast pre-orders for Holiday selling periods
throughout the year.
- Work with Lead Planner to forecast container needs on monthly and annual basis.
- Ensure appropriate stock levels at all times.
Purchasing
- Work with purchasing agents to ensure orders arrive in timely manner and stores/internet
sales team are advised on order status. Ensure that the number of "late"
open orders is kept to a minimum and all orders are acknowledged from vendors
on a weekly basis.
- Work with finance ensuring systems are updated with correct pricing and following
up with vendor account statuses.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS Degree
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a Buyer in a furniture company.
• Established relationships w/Chinese manufacturers.
• Proven merchandising and analytical skill including assortment planning
and visual presentation.
• Vendor negotiations, including pricing and quality issues.
• Experience with merchandise presentation for retail mailers and catalogs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including ability to articulate
and sell concepts to a business team.
• Travel required for product sourcing.
• Teamwork, enthusiasm, great judgment and initiative skills are also
required.
